We left our sweet sweet B&B for a visit to the University of Bath but very quickly we found there wasn’t much to see… (I still respect the Architecture school there though.)
Then it is time for us to set off to Lyton, which is more than two hours drive, not to mention we diverted our way to places like Cheddar Gorge, Wells and Glastonbury.
I must confess I planned this trip because of the breath-taking photo of Cheddar Gorge on DK The Great Britain, however it cannot be more disappointing. We couldn’t find an available parking area anywhere and when we finally got one it was just outrageously expensive. The view wasn’t pervasive enough for us to stay, so we quickly drove away.
It was the continuously presented farming landscape that excited us a lot. In my opinion it is even more beautiful than that of Tuscany, Italy.

We treated ourselves a delicious lunch plus coffee at the small town Wells. It was called Strangers with Coffee, a very independent coffee shop friendly and quiet. We sat in their small garden at the back with sun light gently poured over us.

It was also their market day at Wells on Wednesday, very busy, but with reasonable price for the supplies, not like London. We missed the inside of Bishop’s Palace considering the limited time we were having. But it was much pleasant to take a walk in the streets, and to have an afternoon relax on the grass ground in front of The West Front of the Cathedral.

Glastonbury wasn’t quite far away from Wells. We were there to see the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey. Surprisingly it wasn’t mysterious nor was it highly-sacred as I would imagine. Rather the ruins are surrounded by newly grown grass and trees. Gardens and ponds have been built to add colour to the venue, and left partly “raw” and “wild” to match the original atmosphere. Even so, it has finally become a serene and peaceful place to take a stroll, to read a book, to think, to murmur with lover.
About 5:30 pm we left Glastonbury to head for Lynton. There were still more than two hours ahead and we were very tired at that time. Travelling is not easy. 🙂
